Cold water shock can kill says new film

Detroit Bridge at Salford Quays

Cold water shock can kill...don’t cool off in the Quays this summer. That’s the message in a powerful new film made by triathlete Danny Hill, who lives at Salford Quays, and police diver Gareth Olley.

Danny tells how his friend nearly drowned when, as teenagers, they swam in the Quays; Gareth, who has recovered the bodies of young people who have drowned in open water talks of the double danger of the cold and hazards beneath the surface.

The film will be shown on the big screen at the Quays this summer as part of our campaign to keep people safe.

The water in Salford Quays is deep and cold all year round and anyone jumping or going into the water risks cold water shock which can be lethal.

That’s why swimming and watersports are only allowed as part of organised and supervised sessions where those taking part are properly trained and equipped to deal with the cold water and where we can maintain a safe ratio of customers to lifeguards.
