Safe4Summer

Safe4Summer is an annual partnership campaign which takes place over the summer months involving Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Police (external website)Greater Manchester Combined Authority (external website), local councils, plus others, with the ultimate aim to keep young people safe.

This includes direct engagement with young people and providing information to parents and carers. The campaign also promotes and puts emphasis on social responsibility.

Objectives

Our partnership work aims to protect young people in Greater Manchester through education and by encouraging young people to keep themselves safe.

During this year’s summer campaign, we will focus on:

  • Reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB), by focusing targeted partnership work in hotspot areas and offering young people in Greater Manchester the opportunity to experience fun and exciting activities in their local areas

  • Reassuring local communities to report ASB and demonstrate through our work that the partnership is committed to working together to tackle anti-social behaviour

  • Encouraging people to take responsibility for their actions and assist with education around summer safety messages

  • Sharing information about the consequences of ASB

  • Keeping our communities, including young people, safe around water and educate them about water safety

  • Reducing incidents of deliberately set fires and the number of hoax calls to emergency services

Pol-Ed

Join our Safe4Summer Webinar. To support schools further, the Pol-Ed team will be hosting two online sessions exploring how Pol-Ed resources can support the Safe4Summer campaign and highlighting relevant lessons and assemblies available through the platform.

Places can be booked via the links above.

Looking Ahead to Autumn

Following the summer break, Greater Manchester partners will begin work around Operation Treacle, which focuses on reducing anti-social behaviour and promoting safety around Halloween and Bonfire Night. Schools may wish to consider incorporating Pol-Ed’s Bonfire Night and Firework Safety Assemblies into their autumn curriculum planning. These assemblies help pupils understand how to enjoy celebrations safely while reducing the risk of injury and anti-social behaviour.
Together, we can help ensure children and young people enjoy a safe, positive, and enjoyable summer.
